Description: | Taxes are one way society can share its wealth. Its not just about solidarity with the less wealthy. Its a contribution towards a functional and safe society, towards public services such as education or healthcare or other public. Despite this, a number of people see them as a burden or even as wasted money. In todays global economy, corporate tax evasion and chronic failure to tax profits where they are created has the greatest impact on the poorest countries. How can philanthropy and the use of tax havens coexist? Why do we dislike paying taxes, but send DMS donations? Should we rely on philanthropy and mutual solidarity rather than the state? How do corporations look upon the topic of fair taxation - will this become a new subject in the area of social responsibility? Discussion participants: Iva Petříčková, Executive Director of Business Leaders Forum Lukáš Kovanda, head economist at the Roklen Fin financial group. Henry Ushie, tax researcher and activist, Oxfam Novib, Nigeria Moderator: Ondřej Kopečný, Glopolis. The discussion will be held in Czech and English, with simultaneous interpreting into Czech or English available. Reservation required: rezervace@dox.cz. Admission: 60 CZK / 40 CZK. The panel discussion is organized by Glopolis, an independent think-tank, and Centre DOX. The event is being held within the scope of the public programme to the Soul of Money exhibition. |
