Central Moravia
This region, with its natural border of the Nízký Jeseník, Oder Hills and Drahanská vrchovina, is renowned for its folklore.
A characteristic feature of this area is the costume of Haná, combining beauty and wealth and ranking among the most extravagant costumes in Moravia. Folk crafts preserved to this day include the special straw decoration of Easter eggs. You can enjoy local Olomouc cheese and wash it down with beer from a local brewery or wine from the Archiepiscopal Wine Cellars in Kroměříž.
Nature
The local offering of year-round tourist attractions includes natural sights located not only on the earth's surface (such as protected natural area Litovelské Pomoraví in the floodplain basin of the Morava river), but thanks to karst formations also caves and chasms under the earth - Hranice Gorge the deepest gorge in the Czech Republic, richly embellished karst caves Javoříčské, Mladečské and Zbrašovské, etc.
Local colour is completed by folklore festivities, picturesque hamlets, and jewels of town architecture listed as historical town reserves, castles, chateaus, and religious buildings.
Monuments of the Region
Prominent features of the region can be found in Rymice. These are cottages with thatched roofs and dirt-smeared timbered houses.
The majestic castle Bouzov perked high above Litovel is well-known from many fairytale films. Medieval Gothic-Renaissance architecture and Classicism, a unique Museum of Clocks with several hundred items on display, the traditional Ecce Homo hill climb race, all that and more can be found in the town and castle Šternberk.
Olomouc - the metropolis of Haná, the largest and oldest historical town reserve in the Czech Republic second only to Prague, also called "the pearl on the green cushion" is located in the centre of the region. Olomouc will please all the senses of its visitors with the scent of flowers at the Flora Olomouc exhibition, with the music of the Olomouc Musical Spring and International Organ Festival, with the dignified curves of monumental churches and palaces, splashing fountains, singing birds in the parks, as well as with the sounds of the modern city. The city is full of historic sights: the Archiepiscopal Palace, Archiepiscopal Consistory, Caesar's Fountain, Dominican Church, Edelmann Palace, Hercules' Fountain, Jesuit College, Jupiter's Fountain, Chapter Deanery, the Chapel of St. Anna, the Chapel of St. John Sarkander, the Cathedral of St. Wenceslas, the Fountain of Tritons and many more.
The Basilica of the Visitation of the Virgin is located near Olomouc on Svatý Kopeček ("Holy Hill"). One of the largest castles in the Czech Republic, Helfštýn, is known for the regular yearly meetings of master smiths "Hefaiston" and a number of other cultural and social events (Fairytale Castle, exhibition of historic cars, Folk Weekend, Castle Ball, etc.). The monuments of Central Moravia listed in the UNESCO world heritage list include: the Archiepiscopal Palace, Flower Garden and Podzámecká Garden in Kroměříž and the Holy Trinity Column in Olomouc.
Active Relaxation
The flat landscape provides many opportunities for bikers (on more than 1,400 marked cycling trails) and hikers of any age. Mountain lovers, whether they go by foot or mountain bike, will be attracted by the wooded peaks, coiling around the region like a green garland. Two Moravian-Silesian long-distance cycling trails cross each other in this area: the Moravian and Amber Trail, which are parts of the Euro Velo project.
The region provides many places for relaxation, yachting, fishing, and other sporting activities – there are well-known tennis centres in Prostějov and Přerov, a number of health farms, mini golf courses, horse riding clubs and the new 18-hole golf course near Olomouc.
The special events of the region include the famous Ecce Homo hill climb car races in Šternberk.
