Špindlerův Mlýn is called "Jewel of Krkonoše" mostly because of its unique location in the central part of Krkonoše Mountains.
The town was first mentioned in the 15th century, when it used to be almost inaccessible mining and logging settlement. It lies from 715 m to 1310 m (2345 ft - 4296 ft) above sea level. Today there is the most popular ski-resort in Czech Republic. Many important sport events take place here.
Racing sloups are suitable for such contests as Men European Cup in term 21st - 22nd December, 2004 (slalom), World-championship in acrobatic skiing (big air) on 5th March, 2005 or in term 21-22 December 2005 Women World-championship in alpine disciplines.
The resort is famous also for its beautiful crosscountry - tracks and a large snowpark with 110 metres long halfpipe. It is a suitable destination for active or peaceful holiday in the beautiful natur of KRNAP national park. Non-skiing winter visitors can enjoy the winter sledge slide, try snowtubing, visit aquapark with relaxation centre, cinema or a discobar.
Also summer visitors have many possibilities to have fun, there is the summer bobsleigh track, giant swing, mini-golf courts, tennis, squash or ping-pong courts and halls or swimming pools. In June takes place popular traditional folklore fair "Špindlerovská pouť ". For adrenalin lovers are waiting MTB downhill tracks, quad range track or paragliding school. Flight over the dam on a steel rope is also unforgettable adventure. More quiet could be a roundtrip with the horse carriage or tourist train.
