Mariánské Lázně (Marienbad)
A town surrounded by springs
Mariánské Lázně lies in a beautiful wide valley in West Bohemia, 576 – 626 metres above sea level. An almost 20km wide forest zone with numerous hiking trails passes right through the spa. Mariánské Lázně enjoys an excellent reputation around the world for both its treatment methods and effective natural curative resources, as well as its picturesque, enchanting surroundings. Almost 100 cold springs have been discovered in and around the town, all with a high concentration of CO2; some were discovered as early as in the 16th century. A real pearl among the local neo-classicist buildings is the spa colonnade built in 1889; the spa district is dominated by the so-called ‘Singing Fountain’ which provides entertainment in the form of music and light performances.
