Mountain of Holy Mother (Hedeč) (Hora Matky Boží (Hedeč)) - monastery and place of pilgrimage

Situated very hign above Králíky town, there is pilgrimage area that is connected with the town by the alley with village chapels. At those times, children walked up this mountain, there were processions and prayers here. Tobiáš Jan Becker (1646-1710) was one of them - he later on became a bishop of Hradec Králové who built a church on then Lysá hora. At those times, children walked up this mountain, there were processions and prayers here. Tobiáš Jan Becker (1646-1710) was one of them - he later on became a bishop of Hradec Králové who built a church on then Lysá hora. The building was finished in 1700 and an amatory picture of Virgin Mary was brought there the same year. It became the heart of this pilgrimage place and Lysá hora got a new name - Mountain of Godly Mother. In 1710 a new building was finished - a monastery. Upon its completion in 1710 the monastery on Marian Hill near Králíky was used by the Servite Order, from 1883 the Redemptorist Order, and between 1950 and 1960 served as a prison for priests. A charity house of nuns is currently located in the building. A Holy Trail beginning at the Lesser Square in Králíky leads to the monastery. The Holy Stairs are a unique feature of the monastery. These are a replica of the staircase in the Antonia Castle in Jerusalem, later brought to Rome. Jesus Christ climbed these stairs on his way to be judged by Pontius Pilate. Pilgrims climb the stairs on their knees, while the side staircase serves for normal descent. From Marian Hill there is a beautiful view of Králíky, Suchý vrch, and Králický Sněžník.
