The church was originally consecrated as St. Martin. In 1683 the consecration was changed and a new altar of St. John the Baptist was installed. The original church murals were painted over in the course of the centuries, even whitewashed, but the paintings were restored during reconstruction in 1970-1974. A unique set of three bells is installed in the bell tower. One of these bells from 1561 is regarded by experts as master bell-making work. From its very beginning the church has continued to fulfil its original function, i.e. masses, weddings, funerals, and baptisms. For these reasons and the singularity of the structure the church is a popular destination for both domestic and foreign visitors. |
