| Description: | The establishment of the ghetto dates to the mid-16th century and according to records the ghetto was chained shut at night. The majority of houses after reconstruction stand here today, including House No. 44 where a Jewish ritual bath (mikva) was once located; remains of the equipment for heating the water remain at the site today. The synagogue stood in the centre of the ghetto, perhaps 100 metres southwest from the square. The synagogue served until 1940; afterwards it was used as a warehouse... more information |
