Firstly he battled on the side of the hugenots at his hometown La Rochelle. Then he left France and entered the order of the Swedish army. However he ended up leaving it. In March 1645, he was named general by Emperor Ferdinand III. Under his leadership, the Brno troop of just 1500 men preserved the town against 28 000. In 1646 he became the general major and then the general of imperial troops in Moravia. He spent the end of his life at his extensive Moravian estate, which the Habsburg emperors granted to him. |
